PHILADELPHIA - The men's cross country team competed in the inaugural Friend Invitational on the course of the Belmont Plateau at West Fairmount Park on Friday, September 14. The 8K race, an inaugural run in honor of Roswell Friend, a member of the Temple cross country team who passed away in 2011, featured 28 runners from host Temple, Saint Joseph's, and La Salle. Saint Joseph's took third place in the contest.
In their second collegiate races, freshman John Egan paced all Hawks with a time of 30:14.05, good for 15th overall, and classmate Michael Coleman finished 17th (30:24.96) for Saint Joseph's.
Junior Max Margiotta crossed the finish line next for the Hawks with an 18th-place finish, clocking in at 30:41.18.
Sophomores Michael Cassidy (31:46.55) and Thomas Harrington (32:46.80), both competing in their first 8Ks as Hawks, rounded out the top five for the Saint Joseph's, coming in at 20th and 22nd, respectively.

The Hawks return to action on Friday, September 28, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the prestigious Paul Short Invitational, a race that turned out 402 runners last season.
