The Saint Joseph's field hockey team dropped a 5-1 result to Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field. Senior Jordan Cotter scored her first career goal while junior Kate Mitchell made 15 saves in the cage for the Hawks.
Mitchell picked her outstanding play up where she left off on Friday, making five stops in the game's first three-plus minutes. Cotter's tally, on a feed from freshman Aniek Koman gave Saint Joseph's (1-2) a 1-0 lead 6:22 into the game.
Hofstra (3-1) equalized with 16:01 to play in the first half as Jonel Boileau scored the first of her three goals on the day on a pass from Charlotte Loehr.
The Pride jumped ahead quickly in the second half as Codi Nyland tucked a rebound into the cage for a 2-1 lead just less than three minutes into the frame. With 24:47 remaining in the game, Boileau had a shot redirected into the goal by Melissa McCarthy for a two-goal cushion.
Hofstra goalkeeper Kaitlyn De Turo then stopped a Saint Joseph's penalty stroke, and Boileau notched the final two goals of the game to ice the victory.
Mitchell finished the game with a career high 15 saves, while De Turo had eight for Hofstra. Seniors Abby Hoover and Meghan Githens added defensive saves for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph's will play its first road tilt of the season on Wednesday night at Delaware. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. in Newark, Del.
