Men's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Loss to St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (2-4-5, 0-1-0 A-10) fell to St. Bonaventure, 2-0, in Atlantic 10 action on Friday evening at Sweeney Field. The Hawks will look to bounce back this Sunday against Duquesne.

St. Bonaventure (7-4-1, 1-0-0 A-10) struck first in the seventh minute on a goal by Nicholas Perillo, who fired a shot into the upper-ninety to put the Bonnies on the board, 1-0.

The Bonnies would tack on another goal in the 88th minute as James Reed put one to the right of Saint Joseph's redshirt senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi to extend St. Bonaventure's lead to 2-0.

For the game, Saint Joseph's held a 17-12 advantage in shots, taking 11 in the second half, but only landing five on goal. Each squad saw eight corner kicks.

For Saint Joseph's, senior midfielder Jimmy Reilly took a team-high three shots, landing one on goal, while senior forward Ryan McFadden landed both of his shots on goal.

D'Ottavi (2-4-5) made three of the team's four saves on the day. Senior midfielder Pat McGlynn made a team save in the sixth minute of action.

The Hawks return to action this Sunday, October 13 when they host Duquesne in A-10 action on Sweeney Field. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. In conjunction with the SJU Alumni Association, the men's soccer program will hold its annual Alumni Game at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a reception for alumni and their families at the Landmark Americana located on 54th Street. Additionally, the dedication of the Blaney Family Locker Room is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. at Sweeney Field.
