Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Match at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA - The Hawks were unable to overcome two early second-half Explorer goals as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell to La Salle, 2-0, in Atlantic 10 action on Friday evening at McCarthy Stadium. With the loss, the Crimson and Gray drop to 2-6-5 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.

La Salle (6-5-2, 3-0-0 A-10) took advantage of a corner kick in the 56th minute to secure its first tally of the match. Jason Plumhoff found Joe Farrell off the corner, who headed the ball to Rob Friskey. Friskey headed his shot into the back of the SJU goal to give the Explorers the 1-0 advantage.

Friskey and Plumhoff teamed up again in the 65th minute as Friskey threw the ball in toward Plumhoff, who rocketed his seventh goal of the season. 

For the match, La Salle held a 17-12 advantage in shots and 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Both squads fired off two shots on goal in the first half, but the Explorers found their shots land on goal six times in the second half compared to the Hawks' two. 

The Hawks saw a pair of good looks in the middle of the first half as sophomore midfielder Tim Lazorko took a solid shot on net in the 22nd minute and senior midfielder Pat McGlynn landed one on goal in the 27th minute. Sophomore forward Emmanuel Temeh subbed into the match in the 64th minute and landed SJU's two other shots on goal in the 76th and 82nd minutes. 

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi (2-6-5, 0-3-0 A-10) made six saves, with four coming in the second half, in a full 90:00.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Friday, October 25 when the Hawks host league newcomer George Mason. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Sweeney Field.
