AMBLER, Pa./JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Sophomore Pierre Brondeau won three matches this weekend as the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team earned a split against Richmond and Saint Peter's. The Hawks fell to Richmond, 6-1, before taking down Saint Peter's, 4-3.

On Friday night, the Hawks hosted Richmond at the Upper Dublin Sports Center. Tommy Gates and Andres Urrea earned a victory in the second doubles flight, 8-6, but the Spiders came away with 8-6 and 9-8 (6) victories in the first and third to secure the point.

In the sixth singles flight, Brondeau was a straight sets winner, 6-2, 6-4, over Sebastien Fauchet, but it wasn't enough as the Spiders won the other five flights to take the 6-1 win.

Despite a quick turnaround, the Hawks were able to earn their first team victory of the spring semester on Saturday afternoon, downing the Peacocks by a 4-3 score. Gates and Urrea again won their second doubles flight match, this time by an 8-3 score, while Brondeau and Jeff Kessler cruised to an 8-2 win in the third flight to lock up the doubles point.

In singles play, Brondeau won in the third flight, 6-1, 7-6 (6), for his third individual victory of the weekend. Joining him in the win column were Max Montague (6-4, 6-0 in the fourth flight) and Urrea (6-2, 6-3 in the fifth).

The Hawks return to action at the Upper Dublin Sports Center on Saturday, February 9, with a 6:00 p.m. tilt against Davidson.
