The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team improved to 10-9 on the season with a dominant 7-0 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. The Hawks won all six singles flights in straight sets after taking the doubles point.
Senior Alex Veronis won his first-flight match easily, taking a 6-1, 6-1 result, while senior captain Tommy Gates was a 6-0, 6-3 winner in the second flight.
Graduate student Jeff Kessler cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third flight, while junior Dan Barrus gritted out a 6-4, 6-4 win in the fourth.
Seniors Erik Thunberg and Kristian Broaddus were winners as well; Thunberg won his fifth-flight match at love, 6-0, 6-0, while Broaddus took his sixth-flight tilt, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, Jose Sierra and Max Montague earned a tough 9-8 (2) win in the first flight while Broaddus and Paranjay Malhotra won the second flight, 8-2.
The Hawks will play two more road matches - Monday at Villanova and Tuesday at Temple - before they head to Mason, Ohio, for the Atlantic 10 Championship beginning April 25.
