Using a singles lineup featuring six graduating players, the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team barreled past Lafayette, 7-0, on Monday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. Four Hawks earned wins in both singles and doubles play on the afternoon.
The Hawks swept the doubles point with a trio of wins. Dan Barrus and Jeff Kessler were 8-6 winners in the first flight, while Axel Rebstein and Erik Thunberg won by the same score in the third flight. Meanwhile, Kristian Broaddus and Paranjay Malhotra cruised to an 8-1 win in the second flight.
Saint Joseph's went on to win all six singles matches, five of them in straight sets. Alex Veronis took his first-flight match, 6-1, 6-3, while Tommy Gates was a 6-4, 6-3 winner in the second flight.
Kessler cruised to a win in the third flight, 6-3, 6-0, and Thunberg topped his fourth-flight opponent, 6-4, 6-3. Broaddus dominated as well in the fifth, taking a 6-2, 6-2 result.
Rebstein secured the sweep in a supertiebreaker, taking the sixth flight by a 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 score.
The Hawks, who improved to 8-9 win the win, will host La Salle on Tuesday.
