Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Junior goalkeeper Rachel Barnett made 15 saves and sophomore midfielder Eva Gekas scored her first career goal but the Saint Joseph's field hockey team ultimately succumbed to a late penalty stroke that gave 17th-ranked Drexel a 2-1 win at Buckley Field on Friday night.
Saint Joseph's (0-3) took an early lead as Gekas took a feed from Jordan Martin on a penalty corner to put the Hawks on top, 1-0, just 5:19 into the contest.
The Hawks held the lead into halftime as Barnett made 10 stops in the opening 35 minutes.
Drexel (2-1) equalized with 22:36 to play as Christina Conrad tipped home a pass from Allyson Fuller on a penalty corner to knot the affair at a goal apiece.
Conrad then converted a penalty stroke with 13:49 remaining in the game to give the Dragons the victory.
The Hawks open up a four-game homestand on Sunday when they host Fairfield at Ellen Ryan Field. The game is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
