PHILADELPHIA - Former Saint Joseph's basketball great Pat Carroll has been named one of four inductees to be inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame this year. Joining Carroll in the class are Mike Jordan (Penn), Crista Ricketts (La Salle) and Dick Weiss (Media). The induction will take place on April 14 at The Palestra as part of the annual Big 5 Basketball Awards Banquet.
Carroll, who starred for the Hawks from 2002 to 2005, won the 2005 Geasey Award as the Big 5 Player of the Year and was an All-Big 5 First Team selection. He averaged a career-best 18.3 points per game that season and led the Hawks to berths in the Atlantic 10 Championship game and the NIT title game. Carroll was named an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America and was chosen the A-10 Co-Player of the Year.
During his career, the native of Horsham, Pa., also earned All-Big 5 Second Team honors in 2003 and 2004. One of the finest perimeter shooters in Saint Joseph's history, he owns the school records for career 3-point field goals (294), 3-point percentage (44.5) and 3-point attempts (661), while setting the single-season marks in 2005 for 3-pointers (135) and attempts (311). The 6-5 forward tallied 1,324 points in his career, ranking him 26th on SJU's all-time list.
Carroll was inducted into the Saint Joseph's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.
The 2014 Big 5 Basketball banquet is scheduled for Monday, April 14 at 6 p.m. on the floor of The Palestra. The Big 5 will also honor its 2013-14 men's and women's award winners at the banquet, making the evening a true celebration of Big 5 basketball past and present. Tickets to the event are $50 each.
