Second Half Barrage Carries Field Hockey Past Georgetown, 4-1

Box Score

WASHINGTON – Four unanswered goals, including three in the second half, carried the Saint Joseph's field hockey team past Georgetown, 4-1, at the Hoyas' Multi-Sport Field on Sunday afternoon.  Sophomore Katja Hansen tallied the game-winner, her first career goal, six minutes into the second half to put the Hawks ahead for good.

"Today was a great opportunity for us to come together as a team and 'find a way'," head coach Lynn Farquhar said.

Georgetown (4-8) opened the scoring less than two minutes in as Sarah Butterfield picked up a rebound off a penalty corner and slotted it past SJU's Amelia Deibler for an early lead.

Sophomore Kerri Turk answered 10 minutes later for Saint Joseph's (7-7), scoring her second goal in as many games to tie the contest with 23:21 remaining in the first half.

The Hawks took control of the game in the second half as Hansen scored her first collegiate goal on a rebound with 29:08 to go in the frame.

Senior Jordan Martin then added an insurance goal, her team-leading seventh of the season, at the 22:02 mark to extend the lead to 3-1 before sophomore Melanie Colozzi tallied her first of the year with just 2:38 left on the clock to seal the win.

Deibler made five saves to secure her seventh victory on the year, while Rachel Skonecki made five in defeat for the Hoyas.

"Credit to Georgetown, who came out with great energy and really challenged us with a defensive presence," Farquhar said.  "Our players rose to the challenge and controlled the controllable. Individual strength on the ball and teamwork made the difference.  As a result, we had four Hawks find the goal, and ended the game with another proud attacking moment. Our team energy and persistence has taken another step forward."

The Hawks will return to the pitch on Friday, October 17, at Lock Haven.  Game time for the key Atlantic 10 tilt is set for 3:00 p.m.
