Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team suffered its first Atlantic 10 defeat of the season on Sunday, falling to Fordham by a 2-0 score at Jack Coffey Field. Freshman goalkeeper Bobby Edwards made three saves on the day for the Hawks.
Neither side made headway in the first half as both keepers kept their sheets clean. Edwards tallied a pair of saves for SJU, while Sean Brailey was called on just once for the Rams.
Fordham (5-6-1 overall, 2-1-0 Atlantic 10) broke through shortly after the interval as Ole Sandnes netted his first goal of the season in the 49th minute. Sandnes collected a deflected cross and slotted it past Edwards for the game's first goal.
Andres Penfold saw the game off for the Rams, scoring his team-leading seventh of the season in the 68th minute on assists from Aleksandar Mastilovic and Kyle Bitterman to secure the result.
Saint Joseph's (6-3-3 overall, 1-1-0 Atlantic 10) maintained an 18-14 advantage in shots on the day and took five of the game's nine corner kicks, but ultimately could not convert those edges into goals.
The loss is the first regulation defeat for Saint Joseph's since September 1, a run of nine consecutive matches.
The Hawks will look to bounce back next Sunday, October 19, at George Washington. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in Washington.
