Deibler Makes Seven Saves But Field Hockey Falls to Richmond

MERION STATION, Pa. – Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Deibler made seven saves on Friday afternoon but the Saint Joseph's field hockey team ultimately fell to Richmond, 5-0, at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.

Richmond (7-4 overall, 3-0 Atlantic 10) got on the board 4:30 into the game on a goal by Taylor Dietrick.  Four minutes later, Kasey Gilbride doubled the lead for the Spiders, before Kelly Quinn's third of the season gave UR a 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Saint Joseph's (5-6 overall, 1-2 Atlantic 10) battled back early in the half, but with 16:16 to go in the game, Blair Kline chipped a shot over an outstretched Deibler to give the Spiders a 4-0 lead.  Hannah Thomson then re-directed a blast from Rebecca Barry with 9:57 to play to close out the scoring.

SJU held a 7-6 edge in penalty corners during the game, but the Spiders outshot the Hawks, 17-9, on the afternoon.

The Hawks will continue their homestand on Sunday when VCU visits Ellen Ryan Field.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
