PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team will open its season at Temple (0-0) this Saturday, February 15. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Geasey Field and admission is free.
Check back with SJUHawks.com for the latest up-to-date information throughout the weekend where any changes to Saturday's game due to weather-related issues will be announced.
The Hawks return 22 letterwinners and 10 starters from a 2013 team that went .500 for the first time since 2009. The offensive unit returns three Hawks that boasted 20-plus goals and 25-plus points apiece last season in senior attacks Abby Ananian and Val Paolucci and junior midfielder Julia Falcone, a group that combined for 52 percent (78-of-149) of SJU's total goals in 2013. The defensive trio of seniors Brittany Hanrahan, Allison Heath, and Kaitlyn McSwiggan will be expected to anchor the backfield and sophomore Genevieve Giblin is expected to get the start in net come Saturday.
Saturday's game will mark the 16th consecutive year in which the Hawks and Owls will face each other but the first season in which they will compete as non-conference opponents. Saturday's match will additionally mark the first time that the cross-city rivals will face each other to kick off their seasons.
The Owls return 21 letterwinners and seven starters, led by attacks Jaymie Tabor and Rachel Schwaab, who combined for 50 goals in 2013.
