Women' Lacrosse to Face LIU Brooklyn, Drexel This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (0-1) will look to bounce back from an 11-7 loss at Temple this past Tuesday with a pair of Philadelphia games this weekend. The Hawks will host LIU Brooklyn (0-1) on Friday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. and head to Drexel (1-0) on Sunday, February 23 for a 1:00 p.m. start.

Live streaming of all seven home games, including Friday's home opener, will be available on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network via a subscription to Hawks All-Access.

SJU will look for its first win of the season after falling to Temple, 11-7, on Tuesday. Tied 5-5 coming out of the halftime break, Temple went on a 4-0 run to eventually outscore the Hawks 6-2 in the second half. Junior midfielder Julia Falcone tallied two goals to lead six Hawks in scoring while junior midfielder Hannah Hutchins dished out two assists in her first collegiate start. Sophomore goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin made seven saves in the loss.

SCOUTING LIU BROOKLYN
LIU Brooklyn enters Friday's game with an 0-1 record after falling to La Salle, 17-5, on Monday. LIU Brooklyn freshman Jenn Peters scored three goals in her collegiate debut while goalkeeper Alexis Maldonado made 17 saves, but La Salle scored the first six goals of each half to secure the win. The Blackbirds return three of their top four scorers from last season in Kimberly Kovar (19G, 5A), Shakoya Smith (18G, 4A) and Colleen Holmes (15G, 1A). LIU Brooklyn finished 0-16 last season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST THE BLACKBIRDS
Friday's meeting will mark the first between the Saint Joseph's Hawks and the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds.

SCOUTING DREXEL
Drexel enters Sunday's game with a 1-0 record after defeating George Washington, 12-7, on Sunday. Kelly Palace and Amanda Norcini combined for nine goals and goalkeeper Teresha Bradley made five saves in the win. The Dragons return four scorers who tallied 10-plus goals in 2013 from a team that finished 11-7 last season.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE DRAGONS
Drexel leads the series 12-6 and currently owns a five-game win streak against the Hawks that dates back to March 14, 2009. On March 1 of last season, midfielder Julia Falcone scored a game-high four goals on a game-high eight shots, but the Hawks would fall short, 8-6. Tied 6-6 with just under six minutes left in the game, Drexel's Joelle Harke scored the game's final two goals to hand SJU the heartbreaking loss. Goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin made five saves in a full-game effort. Falcone and senior attack Abby Ananian (2G, 2A) own four career points apiece against Drexel.
