DAYTON, Ohio - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team fell at Dayton, 82-56, Sunday afternoon at UD Arena. The Hawks, who were led by 15 points from sophomore guard Ciara Andrews, shot just 31.9 percent from the floor as they moved to 20-7 overall and 9-5 in the Atlantic 10.
After a slow start to the first half, Saint Joseph's used an 8-2 run to open a 19-12 edge on a driving layup by Andrews at 7:16.
The Flyers (20-5, 13-1 A-10) would answer back with a 14-4 run, taking a 26-23 lead on a pair of free throws by Andrea Hoover at 3:21.
Dayton would continue to push its lead, scoring 10 of the final 14 points of the half to take a 36-27 lead into the second half.
The Flyers would carry momentum into the second half, outscoring the Hawks 18-9 to start the half, taking a 54-36 with 13:20 to play.
Five-straight points by Andrews would bring Saint Joseph's to within 54-41 with 12:35 to play, but the Hawks got no closer from there.
As a team, Saint Joseph's shot 26.3 percent in the second half (10-of-38) and hit just 22-of-69 from the floor overall., while going 3-of-13 from three-point range (23.1 percent) and 9-of-14 from the foul line (64.3 percent).
Andrews, coming off a career-high 21 points against Duquesne, added five rebounds, four assists and three steals for SJU. Classmate Sarah Fairbanks added 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots, while senior Kelsey Beger added 13 points off the bench.
At the other end, Dayton was 28-of-48 overall from the floor (48.3 percent), 3-of-12 from behind the arc and 23-of-25 from the foul line (92 percent). Amber Deane had a game-high 16 points to lead five Flyers in double figures.
Saint Joseph's caps the road portion of its schedule Thursday at Massachusetts. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
