POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team exploded for five goals in a 5-1 win over Marist on Sunday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-1-2 overall.  

Saint Joseph's kicked off the scoring in the 22nd minute, when junior forward Emmanuel Temeh crossed the ball from the right side of the box to the left to find senior forward Mike Glazer. Glazer put away his third goal of the season to put the Hawks up, 1-0. 

Marist (4-2-1) struck back with a tally in the 29th minute to equalize the score at one goal apiece. 

From that point, the match would belong to the Hawks. 

Senior defender Jake Nelson converted on a penalty kick in the 31st minute and junior forward Mark Colville netted his first goal as a Hawk on an assist from sophomore midfielder Eric Jordan to give Saint Joseph's the 3-1 advantage heading into the halftime break.

The Hawks did not waste any time adding onto the scoring in the second half, capitalizing on a goal by junior midfielder Tim Lazorko in the 48th minute to extend their lead, 4-1.

Freshman midfielder Matt Crawford capped the scoring as he fired a shot between two Marist defenders to record his first collegiate tally in the 63rd minute.

For the match, Saint Joseph's held a 12-9 edge in shots while each team saw just one corner kick opportunity apiece. 

Freshman goalkeeper Bobby Edwards (2-0-2) made two saves in a full-match effort to pick up his second collegiate win. 

Saint Joseph's returns home this Wednesday, September 24 against Siena. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field. 

MATCH NOTES: The last time Saint Joseph's scored five goals in one match was in a 5-2 victory over St. Bonaventure on October 13, 2002... The Hawks are out to the program's best record over its first seven matches in 12 years, since the 2002 team jumped out to a 6-1-0 record to start the season... In the past five-match stretch, the Hawks have gone 3-0-2, which is the program's longest stretch of not losing a match in 20 years - since the 1994 team won six consecutive contests between October 14-29... The Hawks are now just one win away from tying their total number of wins from last season, with 11 matches still to be played this fall... Freshman midfielder Matt Crawford made his first collegiate start and scored his first collegiate goal... Saint Joseph's saw career-high minutes from Crawford (82), sophomore forward Mori Diane (73), and freshman midfielder Mike Akinkoye (18).
