Early Goals Deal Field Hockey 3-0 Defeat at #19 American

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three goals in the first 16 minutes of play led 19th-ranked American past the Saint Joseph's field hockey team, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Jacobs Field.

American (2-1) opened the scoring just 1:26 into the match as Natalie Konerth tallied on a penalty corner.  The Eagles doubled the lead on a goal by Jess Davis at the 8:10 mark before Sophia Crawshay struck to give AU a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Saint Joseph's (2-1) outshot the Eagles 9-1 in the second half, but unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, American's Kate McBeath made three saves to keep the Hawks off the board.

For the day, SJU enjoyed a 10-7 advantage in shots, while taking six penalty corners to American's four.  Amelia Deibler made two saves in the cage for SJU.

The Hawks will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they meet #16 Michigan State in a neutral-site tilt.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Jacobs Field.
