Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. – The Hawks could not overcome a two-goal, first-half deficit as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad fell to Rhode Island, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at the URI Soccer Complex.
Rhode Island's Emil Jesman Sunde put away a pair of goals in the 29th minute and 35th minute to give the Rams the early 2-0 advantage.
Saint Joseph's (3-9-1, 1-2-0 A-10) cut its deficit to one goal in the 65th minute. Sophomore defender Kevin Lockhart dished off a pass to senior midfielder Tim Lazorko on a smooth give-and-go play, and Lazorko found senior forward Emmanuel Temeh, who snuck into the back of the box and put his team-leading fifth goal of the season into the back of the net to put the Hawks on the scoreboard, 2-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Edwards (2-6-1, 1-2-0 A-10) made a career-high eight saves - four in each half - in the full 90:00.
URI (6-5-2, 1-1-1 A-10) owned a 15-10 edge in shots, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore midfielder Matt Crawford took a team-high three shots, including a shot on goal in the 81st minute.
Saint Joseph's returns home to host George Mason in Atlantic 10 action this Saturday, October 17. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.
