Box Score DAYTON, Ohio – Junior forward Mori Diane scored his first collegiate goal (69'), but the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad ultimately fell to Dayton, 7-1, in a rain-soaked match at Baujan Field on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 3-11-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the A-10.
Dayton (10-4-2, 5-0-1 A-10) scored three first-half goals (2', 21', 30') and four second-half goals (51', 55', 62', 71') en route to the victory.
The Hawks scored on their first of two corner kick opportunities, which occurred in the 69th minute of play. Senior midfielder Tim Lazorko sent in a ball that found freshman defender Eddie McCusker, whose header was saved but sent back into play. Diane gained possession and blasted his shot from the middle of the box to put away his first collegiate goal at the 68:55 mark. McCusker earned his first collegiate assist on the play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Edwards (2-8-2, 1-4-1 A-10) allowed three goals and made four saves in the first 33:52. Junior goalkeeper Jay Higbee came in to make four saves and allow four goals in the final 56:08.
For the match, Dayton owned a 27-11 advantage in shots, including a 12-3 first-half, and an overall 16-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Flyers also earned six of the match's eight corner kicks, including all four of the first half.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Crawford took a team-high three shots while Diane, McCusker, and sophomore midfielder Mike Akinkoye each landed one shot on goal.
The Hawks return to action this Saturday, October 31 at La Salle. Kick off at McCarthy Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
