Women's Lacrosse Hosts Temple in Season Opener this Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team will open the 2015 season against Temple (1-0) this Saturday, February 14. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

Live streaming ($) of all 10 regular-season home games will be available via a subscription to the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. To sign up, please click here. Live stats will be provided free of charge at SJUHawks.com.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Alex Kahoe, the Hawks return 38 letterwinners, including six starters, and add nine newcomers for the 2015 season. SJU returns its top three goal scorers from last season in senior midfielder Julia Falcone (28), junior midfielder Kelly Phelan (25), and sophomore attack Nora McCallion (19), a trio that combined for 49 percent of SJU's total goals (72-of-148) in 2014.

Temple owns a 15-2 all-time record against Saint Joseph's as Saturday's game will mark the 18th time in program history that the Hawks and Owls will face each other. The teams have faced each other every year since the first match-up in 1999; Temple won the inaugural game, 12-6. SJU's last win against Temple was on March 27, 2009, a final of 15-6.

The game will also mark the second consecutive year in which Saint Joseph's will open its season against Temple; the Owls took an 11-7 victory in 2014. Returning scorers from that match-up include Falcone (2G), junior attacks Bianca Angstadt (1G) and Emily Bowers (1G) and McCallion (1G). Falcone owns a team-best seven career goals against the Owls.

Temple enters Saturday's game coming off of a 10-9 overtime win over UMBC this past Wednesday. Nicole Tiernan netted a free position goal with less than two minutes remaining in overtime to give the Owls the win. Nicole Barretta (3G), Kirstie Connor (2G), Tiernan (2G), and Rachel Schwaab (1G) scored while Jaqi Kakalecik made four saves in the full 66:00.

The Owls went 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the Big East Conference last season.
