PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Lehigh on Sunday afternoon, as the Mountain Hawks came away with a 9-2 win at North Regional Park.
Lehigh (3-2) opened a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Consecutive one-out singles from Connor Faust and David Young set the table for Anthony Rinaldi, whose triple plated the game's first two runs. Rinaldi eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.
Rinaldi added an RBI single in the fourth and then a two-run home run in a four-run fifth that extended the Lehigh advantage to 8-0.
Saint Joseph's (1-8) got on the board in the sixth as John Brue hit a one-out single and eventually scored on an RBI single by Matt Maul. The Mountain Hawks would get the run back in the bottom half, however, on a double by Jacen Nalesnik.
The Hawks set the final margin in the top half of the eighth as Brue led off with a double and scored on a ground ball by Charlie Coghlin.
Kevin Long earned the win for Lehigh, allowing one run on three hits and four walks in five and a third innings. Jayme Edwards notched the save, allowing one run in three and two-thirds innings of relief. Tyler Pallante took the loss for SJU, allowing four runs in three and a third innings.
The Hawks will have Monday off before closing out their trip with games against Florida International and Seton Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
