MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team ended its recent skid with a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. Three Hawks notched two wins apiece to help propel SJU to the win.
The Hawks clinched the doubles point with wins in all three flights. Kyle Chalmers and Andres Urrea were 9-8 winners in the first flight, while Pierre Brondeau and Mike Fallone took the second flight by the same score. Peter Dewitt and Jason Sisti wrapped up the sweep with an 8-6 win in the third flight.
In singles play, Brondeau won his second flight tilt, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Chalmers and Urrea were straight-sets winners in the third and fourth. Chalmers won his match, 6-2, 6-2, while Urrea took a 6-0, 7-6 (6) result in the fourth.
Kevin Gates also earned a point for the Hawks, winning a 6-3, 6-2 contest in the sixth flight.
The Hawks will go for two in a row on Monday afternoon when they host crosstown rival La Salle at 2:00 p.m.
