Former Saint Joseph's rowing standout Sean Drea will be honored at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in England on July 4, with a ceremonial “row over”, in which he will row the course by himself.
Drea, who is considered one of Ireland's top athletes in the 1970s, will be marking an anniversary as he won the Diamond Sculls in 1973, 1974 and 1975. He also earned a silver medal in 1975 at the World Championships.
He rowed for Saint Joseph's from 1974-76 and remains one of the most successful Hawks in international competition. Drea competed in the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games and in four World Championships, while serving as a coach in the 1999 World Championships. He also made two appearances in the European Championships.
