Overtime Heartbreaker for Field Hockey as Hawks Fall at Brown, 2-1

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell in a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon, as Brown earned a 2-1 overtime victory at Goldberger Field.

After the teams played to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, Katarina Angus converted on a penalty corner just under five minutes into the extra frame to give the Bears the win.

Early on, Saint Joseph's (2-5) wasted no time getting in front as freshman Joely Helder scored her first collegiate goal.  Helder took a feed from freshman Anna Willocks on a penalty corner and slotted it home just 67 seconds into the game to put the Hawks on top.

The Hawks carried play for the remainder of the half, outshooting the Bears 11-2, but could not increase the lead.

Brown (3-3) turned the tables in the second half, breaking through with 14:49 to play on a goal by Hannah Rogers.  The Bears controlled most of the period, reversing the run of play from the first half to the tune of a 12-4 shot advantage, but neither team was able to score a winner in regulation.

Junior Amelia Deibler made eight saves for the Hawks, while Katie Hammaker made five for the Bears.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 23, when Lock Haven visits Ellen Ryan Field for an Atlantic 10 matchup.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
