OLEAN, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team dropped a 65-51 contest at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday evening. Senior Ciara Andrews tallied a team-best 11 points and added five assists and four steals, while sophomore Chelsea Woods posted her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Fighting back-and-forth over the opening 12 minutes of play, the Hawks (9-11, 3-5 Atlantic 10) found themselves down just one, 16-15, following a three-pointer by Kathleen Fitzpatrick.
The Bonnies (18-3, 7-1 A-10) would pull away from their as they went on a 10-0 run as a fastbreak layup by Nyla Reuter pushed the lead to 26-15 with 5:24 to go in the quarter. St. Bonaventure would outscore SJU 21-9 in the period and open a 35-21 advantage at the half.
The Hawks played the Bonnies even in the second half, 30-30, but would come no closer than the halftime deficit.
For the game, Saint Joseph's shot 35.8 percent from the field (19-of-53), went 4-of-12 from three-point range and 9-of-12 from the foul line. The Hawks finished with a 34-27 edge in rebounding, but turned the ball over 20 times.
At the other end, Nyla Reuter tallied a game-high 16 points as St. Bonaventure shot 49 percent overall (25-of-51), 41.7 percent from behind the arc (5-of-12) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (10-of-12).
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Saturday versus La Salle at 2 p.m.
