PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (0-1) will host the visiting Monmouth Hawks (2-1) in the 2016 home opener this Wednesday, February 24. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

Wednesday's game will mark the eighth time in program history that the Hawks will face each other; Monmouth owns the all-time series, 4-3. SJU owns a one-game winning streak against Monmouth having won 14-11 in West Long Branch, N.J. on March 14 of last season; Sarah Smith used a career-high seven-point effort to lead SJU to the victory. Under Kahoe's direction, Saint Joseph's is 1-0 against Monmouth.
In 23 seasons, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse program is 16-7 in its home opener.
The Crimson and Gray Hawks enter Wednesday's game coming off of a 15-12 season-opening loss at American on Saturday; Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week Nora McCallion scored a career-high seven goals while Smith netted a hat trick and assist and redshirt freshman Morgan Lamey added a pair of goals of her own.
The visiting Hawks enter Wednesday's game coming off of back-to-back wins over Lafayette (13-9) on Feb. 20 and Rutgers (12-10) on Feb. 17. Monmouth dropped its season-opener at Towson, 9-1. Kate Ryan (8g, 1a) and Marial Pierce (2g, 5a) lead the offense while goalkeeper Caroline Huelster (2-1) sports a 9.33 GAA and .472 save percentage in all 180:00. Monmouth went 12-6 as a member of the MAAC last season.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Saint Joseph's returns 18 Hawks, including nine starters, from last year's squad and adds eight newcomers for the 2016 season. The Hawks were picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season, according to the conference's preseason poll as announced on February 3.
