Women's Basketball Falls at George Mason, 55-41

FAIRFAX, Va. - Held to just 30 percent shooting from the field, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team fell at George Mason, 55-41, Sunday afternoon at EagleBank Arena.

Ahead 15-12 early in the second quarter, Saint Joseph's saw its lead slip away as the Patriots went on a 15-0 run to take a 27-15 edge on Kristi Mokube's layup with 3:49 to go in period. The Hawks, who went 0-of-9 from the floor and turned the ball over three times during that span, finished the quarter hitting just 2-of-15 from the field, while George Mason knocked down 9-of-17 to take a 33-18 lead into the third quarter.

Saint Joseph's (10-12, 4-6 Atlantic 10) fought back to within seven points in the fourth quarter, but couldn't complete the comeback as George Mason got timely baskets to quell SJU's momentum each time.

Senior Sarah Fairbanks led the Hawks with 11 points and added six rebounds, while sophomore Adashia Franklyn tallied nine points and had six rebounds. Fairbanks will enter Wednesday's game versus Fordham just 12 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

As a team, SJU hit 18-of-60 from the field, 3-of-15 from three-point range and 2-of-6 from the foul line.

George Mason (10-13, 5-6 A-10) got a game-high 22 points from Mokube as the Patriots hit 23-of-56 from the floor (41.1 percent), 1-of-7 from behind the arc (14.3 percent) and 8-of-9 from the foul line.

The Hawks' Wednesday matchup with Fordham is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
