Women's Lacrosse To Face Temple on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (1-4) will look to snap a three-game losing skid at Temple (6-1) this Saturday, March 12. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Geasey Field.

Live streaming of the game will be available free of charge while live stats will also be provided, both at OwlSports.com.

Saturday's game will mark the 19th all-time meeting between the Hawks and the Owls; Temple leads the series, 16-2 and has won the last six match-ups. SJU last defeated Temple on March 27, 2009 at home.

Through five games, junior attacker Nora McCallion leads the squad in goals (13) to go with five assists while junior midfielder Maggie Egan owns a team-best 19 points (7g, 12a). Junior attacker Sarah Smith (11g, 3a) and senior midfielder Mallory Grey (5g, 6a) add to SJU's scoring unit. Egan also leads the team in draw controls (19) while Grey (8gb, 6ct), senior defender Caroline Hagan (8g, 5ct), and junior midfielder Megan Tracy (8gb, 4ct) have anchored SJU's defense. Senior goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin (1-4) has seen all 300:00 in net and is coming off of one of her strongest performances of the season, making 11 saves, scooping six ground balls, and causing three turnovers vs. #16 Penn.

Saint Joseph's enters Saturday's game coming off of a 12-6 loss to #16 Penn this past Tuesday. The Hawks battled back from an eight-goal deficit at halftime to outscore the Quakers by four goals in the second half before ultimately falling, 12-6. Freshman midfielder Rebecca Lane scored three goals in her collegiate debut while Egan added a goal and two assists.

Temple enters Saturday's game at 6-1 and on a six-game winning streak after a season-opening loss to then-#16 Louisville and six straight wins over La Salle (13-2), UC Davis (17-4), Lafayette (17-6), Wagner (12-7), UMBC (19-9), and, most recently, Rutgers (16-9) on Wednesday, March 9. Rachel Schwaab (18g, 11a), Megan Tiernan (14g, 10a), Brenda McDermott (13g, 8a), and Morgan Glassford (11g, 1a) lead the Owls in scoring while Jaqi Kakalecik (6-1) owns a 6.44 GAA and .489 save percentage in 420:00.

Under the direction of second-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Saint Joseph's returns 18 Hawks, including nine starters, from last year's squad and adds eight newcomers for the 2016 season. The Hawks were picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season, according to the conference's preseason poll as announced on February 3.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse program hosted Meiji University, out of Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, March 7 on Sweeney Field in an exhibition match-up.
