PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (1-3) returns home to host city-rival #16 Penn (3-1) this Tuesday, March 8. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

Tuesday's game will mark the third all-time meeting between the Hawks and the Quakers and the first to be played on Sweeney Field; Penn owns the series, 2-0. In the most recent meeting between the two squads, then-#13 Penn won 13-1 at Franklin Field; Sarah Smith scored SJU's first goal against Penn in program history.
Saint Joseph's enters Tuesday's game coming off of an 11-9 loss at Wagner this past Saturday. Smith scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Hawks on the offensive end of the field while junior attacker Nora McCallion registered two goals and an assist and senior midfielder Mallory Grey dished out a game-high three helpers.
Through three games, McCallion (13g, 4a), junior midfielder Maggie Egan (6g, 10a), Smith (10g, 3a), and Grey (5g, 5a) lead the Hawks in scoring while Egan has added a team-high 19 draw controls and Grey has matched a team-high eight ground balls and a team-high five caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin has seen all 240:00 in net.
Penn enters Tuesday's game at 3-1 after a season-opening win to Delaware (12-10), a loss at then-#12 Duke (12-6), and back-to-back wins over Rutgers (15-8) and, most recently, Brown (8-3) on Saturday, March 5. Nina Corcoran (7g, 10a) and Iris Williamson (10g, 1a) lead the Quakers in scoring while Britt Brown (3-1) owns a 6.40 GAA and .531 save percentage in 215:40 through all four starts. Penn went 14-5 as a member of the Ivy League last season.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Saint Joseph's returns 18 Hawks, including nine starters, from last year's squad and adds eight newcomers for the 2016 season. The Hawks were picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season, according to the conference's preseason poll as announced on February 3.

The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse program hosted Meiji University, out of Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, March 7 on Sweeney Field in an exhibition match-up.
