Women's Basketball Falls at #25 Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team was held to just 29.6 percent shooting as the Hawks fell at #25/24 Villanova, 79-44, Sunday afternoon at Jake Nevin Field House.

Leading from the tip, the Wildcats (7-0, 1-0 Big 5) jumped out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Shooting 55.4 percent from the field (31-of-56) on the day, Villanova pushed its lead to 39-14 by halftime and allowed Saint Joseph's to get no closer than that over the final 20 minutes.

For the game, Saint Joseph's (5-2, 0-2 Big 5) hit 16-of-54 from the field, went 0-for-5 from three-point range and 12-of-15 from the foul line. Senior Adashia Franklyn was the lone Hawk in double figures as she finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots.

At the other end, the Wildcats connected on 31-of-56 from the floor, 7-of-19 from behind the arc (36.8 percent), and 10-of-11 from the foul line (90.9 percent). Kelly Jekot led three Villanova players in double figures with a game-high 27 points.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday as they head to Towson for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Tigers.
