Women's Basketball Tripped Up At Towson

TOWSON, Md. - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team fell at Towson, 90-66, Tuesday evening at the SECU Arena.

The Hawks got a team-high 19 points from junior guard/forward Sarah Veilleux, but dropped their third straight to fall to 5-3 on the season.

After a back-and-forth opening eight minutes, the Tigers (3-4) began to pull away from the Hawks. Up 17-13, Towson strung together a 15-4 run into the second quarter to take a 32-17 advantage on a jumper by Etalyia Vogt at 7:35.

A three-pointer by junior Kristalyn Baisden brought Saint Joseph's to within 12, 34-22, but the Tigers closed out the period on a 10-6 run to push their lead to 44-28 by halftime.

In the third quarter, the Hawks twice battled back to cut their deficit to 12. However, Towson responded each time and allowed SJU to get no closer than 15 points in the final period.

For the game, the Hawks shot just 34.9 percent from the floor (24-of-69), hit 5-of-15 from three-point range and 13-of-15 from the foul line. Senior guard/forward Chelsea Woods finished with a team-high nine rebounds to go with 15 points, while junior Alyssa Monaghan had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

At the other end, Towson hit 32-of-63 from the field (50.8 percent), 3-of-9 from behind the arc and 23-of-26 from the foul line (88.5 percent). Raine Bankston led four Tigers in double figures with a game-high 27 points.

The Hawks are back in action on December 11 as they host Penn at 7 p.m.
