Box Score

ST. LOUIS - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team held off a late charge by Saint Louis to earn a 66-63 victory over the Billikens on Sunday at Chaifetz Arena.

Backed by a career-high 21 points from senior Amanda Fioravanti, the Hawks picked up their fourth straight win to improve to 11-12 overall and 8-3 in the Atlantic 10.

Leading 64-58 with less than three minutes to play, Saint Joseph's saw its lead cut to one, 64-63, following a pair of free throws by SLU's Sadie Stipanovich with 1:07 to play.

Saint Louis (18-6, 8-3 A-10) then got a defensive stop and the ball back with 43 seconds to play.

Behind stellar defense, the Hawks got their own stop as sophomore Alyssa Monaghan was fouled and went to the line with 28 seconds left.

Following a free throw by Monaghan, Saint Joseph's again forced a Billikens miss as Fioravanti grabbed the rebound.

After a free throw pushed the Hawks' lead to three, 66-63, Saint Joseph's got one final stop as Jordyn Frantz's game-tying three pointer was off the mark and junior Adashia Franklyn gathered the rebound to secure the victory.

Down by as many as eight points in the first quarter, Saint Joseph's battled back to take a 28-27 lead into halftime.

Saint Louis answered back in the third quarter as the host Billikens used a 12-4 run coming out of halftime to build a 39-32 lead on a Frantz steal and layup at 5:20.

Answering back with a 10-3 run of their own, the Hawks tied the game at 42 apiece on a pair of free throws by Chelsea Woods.

Saint Joseph's regained the lead, 48-46, heading into the fourth quarter and built a 60-53 edge midway through the final period before the frantic final minutes.

As a team, the Hawks went 23-of-47 from the field (48.9 percent), 3-of-10 from three-point range and 17-of-19 from the foul line (89.5 percent).

Individually, Fioravanti added a team-high eight rebounds and handed out three assists, while junior Chelsea Woods scored 15 points and had four assists to go with six rebounds.

At the other end, the Saint Louis went 21-of-56 from the field (37.5 percent), 6-of-17 from behind the arc (35.3 percent) and 15-of-19 from the foul line (78.9 percent). Jackie Kemph led three Billikens in double figures with 17 points.
