The 2018 A-10 Championship will run from Thursday, May 3 through Sunday, May 6 at the University of Richmond's Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va. The league's top six teams will make the postseason field. Saint Joseph's was predicted to finish in a tie for third, with George Mason, in the league's preseason poll, voted on by the league's 10 head coaches and announced on February 1. UMass earned six of nine possible first-place votes to take the top spot while VCU was tabbed seventh.
Saint Joseph's reached the A-10 postseason in 2016 and 2017 and return 2017 A-10 First Team defender Kristen Kelbon, 2017 A-10 Second Team midfielder Rebecca Lane, and 2017 A-10 Rookie Team selection Julia Pash.
The Hawks are coming into Thursday's game riding the momentum of an 11-10 overtime win at Wagner last Saturday, where junior midfielder and Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Sinead Brierley scored the late equalizer and converted the game-winning, eight-meter goal and graduate student goalkeeper Liz O'Sullivan made a career-high 13 saves between the pipes.
At the conclusion of the non-conference season, Lane (16g, team-high 12a) and junior attacker Francesca Donato (team-high 20g, 6a) lead the Hawks on the offensive end, joined by the 16-point efforts of junior midfielder Hayley Sabol (13g, 3a) and freshman attacker Stephanie Kelly (10g, 6a). Pash (28) and senior midfielder Kate Payne (25) have combined for over half of SJU's draw controls while Kelbon (team-high 18 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers), senior Juliana Strazulo (9gb, team-high 12 ct), and junior Ally Beck (13gb, 10ct) have anchored SJU's defensive end. O'Sullivan (4-4) sports a .419 save percentage on 64 saves vs. 90 goals allowed in 401:32, all but 84:13 on the season.
