The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team captured its second consecutive Bergen Cup by winning the Varsity 8 at the annual city championship on the Schuylkill River. The Hawks won three of five races on the day.

The Varsity 8 edged Temple, clocking a 5:36.1 ahead of the Owls' 5:37.9. SJU's winning boat was comprised of: c- Jenn Reynolds; 8- Jack Darling; 7- Riley McGwin; 6- Garren Best; 5- Kjel Schlemmer; 4- Thomson Rymer; 3- Claudio Recchilungo; 2- Collin Seabrook; 1- Dave Gee. McGwin, Best, Rymer and Recchilungo were members of the 2017 Bergen Cup winning crew.
The Hawks also garnered a win in the Third Varsity 8, outdistancing Drexel and Temple. The lineup was: c- Alex Mayo; 8- Jason Peacock; 7- Jansen Kachel; 6- Mike Thompson; 5- Rob McCullough; 4- Patrick Ganter; 3- Collin Petersen; 2- John Thompson; 1- Mike Fedele
Saint Joseph's also scored a victory in the Varsity 4 by defeating three Drexel boats, with a lineup of: c- Courtney McDonnell; 4-Nate Tobey; 3- Thomas McGuane; 2- Jack Yeager; 1- Rob McElligott.
SJU's Second Varsity 8 posted a third-place finish with a crew of: c-Alex Mayo; 8- Jason Peacock; 7- Jansen Kachel; 6- Mike Thompson; 5- Rob McCullough; 4- Patrick Ganter; 3- Collin Petersen; 2- John Thompson; 1- Mike Fedele
The Hawks will go on the road next weekend, traveling to Worcester, Mass., for a dual meet with Holy Cross on April 28.
