Men's Rowing Heads to IRA National Championship

The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team will make its second consecutive appearance in the IRA National Championship Regatta after earning an at-large team bid. The championship gets underway on Friday, June 1 on Mercer Lake in Princeton, N.J., and runs through Saturday, June 3.

The Hawks will race three eights in the championship with the Varsity 8 beginning competition on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in its heat. The Second Varsity 8's heat will take place at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Third Varsity 8 at 9:40 a.m. SCHEDULE

Saint Joseph's Varsity 8 won its first four races of the season, captured its second straight Bergen Cup and earned its second consecutive silver medal at the Dad Vail Regatta. The Hawks' lineup in the field of 24 at IRAs will be: c- Jenn Reynolds; 8- Jack Darling; 7- Riley McGwin; 6- Garren Best; 5- Claudio Recchilungo 4- Thomson Rymer; 3- Kjel Schlemmer; 2- Justin Hawkins; 1- Dave Gee.

The Hawks' Second Varsity 8 also garnered silver at this season's Dad Vail Regatta. SJU is one of 22 teams in the field and the lineup for this weekend will be: c-Fiona Conway; 8- Mike Geoghegan; 7- James Hammerstedt; 6- Collin Seabrook; 5- Joe Sullivan; 4- Justin Aikens; 3- Andrew O'Connor; 2- Devin Swech; 1- Mike Fedele.

SJU's Third Varsity 8, which was a bronze medalist at the Dad Vails, will compete among 19 teams with the lineup comprised of: c: Courtney McDonnell; 8- Jason Peacock; 7- Rob McCullough; 6- Josh Bostrom; 5- Gavin O'Connor; 4- Pat Ganter; 3- Collin Petersen; 2- John Thompson; 1- Jansen Kachel.

Saint Joseph's competed at the IRA Championship last season on Lake Natoma in California. It marked the first time in the IRA's current format of varsity-only crews and qualification standards instituted in 2009 that the Hawks received a bid to the championship. In the years prior to that, club teams were allowed to participate and there was no qualification process.
