Hawks Place Five on IRA All-Academic Men's Rowing Team

Five members of the Saint Joseph's men's rowing team – Jack Darling, Justin Hawkins, Thomson Rymer, Joseph Sullivan and Devin Swech – have been named to the 2018 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) All-Academic Team. It marks the second year in a row that Darling, Rymer and Sullivan have earned the recognition.

Rymer, Darling and Hawkins were members of the Hawks' Varsity 8 that turned in one of its finest seasons ever. The crew opened the year with four wins in a row, including their second straight Bergen Cup title, and then earned a silver medal at the 2018 Dad Vail Regatta in back-to-back years.

Rymer, from Vienna, Va., graduated from SJU with a degree in biology with honors, magna cum laude, and was honored as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for his sport.

Darling, from New Hope, Pa., is a rising senior majoring in finance. He was named the Hawks' Most Outstanding Performer this season.

Hawkins, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., is an international relations major who has earned mention on the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Sullivan was a member of SJU's Second Varsity 8 that earned a silver medal at the 2018 Dad Vail Regatta. He is a rising senior from Orchard Park, N.Y., who is majoring in business intelligence and analytics and is an SJU AD's Honor Roll member.

Swech, a rising junior from Spring City, Pa., rowed for the Varsity 8 at the start of the season, but an injury forced him out of the lineup. He is majoring in finance and has earned a spot on the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Saint Joseph's capped off another stellar season by earning its second consecutive bid to the IRA National Championship this year and sending three boats.
