Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior forward Anna Willocks notched a goal and an assist, but the 14th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to #4 Duke, 6-3, at Syracuse's J.S. Coyne Stadium on Sunday morning.

Duke (6-2) got on the board first as Caroline Andretta scored in her third consecutive game to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the contest.

Saint Joseph's (4-2) earned consecutive penalty corners, forcing keeper Sammi Steele into a pair of saves, but it was the Blue Devils that struck next as Erin Scherrer picked up a rebound and slotted it home to make it a 2-0 game with 17:55 to play in the half.

The Hawks got back into the game as junior Pepa Serrano found freshman Tonya Botherway for a diving tip that beat Steele and cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.

Andretta restored the two-goal lead just 42 ticks into the second half on a pass from Margaux Paolino, while Scherrer tallied her second of the day on an assist from Lily Posternak with just under 29 minutes to play to push the Duke advantage to 4-1.

Rose Tynan added another for Duke before Willocks scored on a corner attempt to notch her third goal of the season and cut the Blue Devil lead to 5-2.

Scherrer capped off her hat trick in the 68th minute, but sophomore Sara Hayes tallied her second goal of the season just 30 seconds later to set the final margin.

Two days after 12th-ranked Syracuse was held without a shot by the Blue Devils, the Hawks ripped off 12, forcing Steele and late substitute Lydia Smeltz into five saves.  Junior Victoria Kammerinke made a season-high nine stops for the Hawks, who enjoyed a 5-4 edge in penalty corner opportunities on the day.

After nearly a month of playing on the road, Saint Joseph's will return to Ellen Ryan Field for a pair of home games this weekend as James Madison visits on Friday before the Hawks host Massachusetts on Sunday.
