Monaghan Matches Career-Highs, But Dukes Pull Away Late

Box Score

Saint Joseph's seniors Alyssa Monaghan and Kristalyn Baisden both matched season-highs in scoring, but it wasn't enough for the Hawks as Duquesne pulled away in the second half for an 81-73 win at the A.J. Palumbo Center on Wednesday.

Monaghan finished the game 9-15 from the floor for 23 points and handed out five assists, while Baisden went 7-14, including 4-7 from behind the arc, for 18 points to help SJU score a season-high 73 points.

Following a back-and-forth first half in which SJU took a 37-36 lead into halftime, the Dukes began to pull away in the third as a layup by Julijana Vojinovic capped a 10-3 run to put Duquesne ahead 56-49 with 1:27 to go in the period.

Saint Joseph's (5-12, 1-3 Atlantic 10) battled back to within two, 61-59, on a Baisden basket with 7:49 left to play, but the Hawks would get no closer as Duquesne answered with a 17-6 run to hold off SJU's rally.

For the game, Saint Joseph's shot a 48.3 percent from the floor (29-60), 42.1 percent from three-point range (9-21) and 6-8 from the foul line.

Individually for SJU, senior Michala Clay came off the bench to add eight points, while classmate Whisper Fisher chipped in with seven points and six rebounds. Junior Nailah Delinois finished with a season-best seven points and grabbed five rebounds.

At the other end, Kadri-Ann Lass led three Dukes in double figures with 23 points as Duquesne finished the game shooting 52.7 percent from the floor (29-55), hit 8-15 from behind the arc (53.3 percent) and went 15-21 from the foul line (71.4 percent).

The Hawks are back in action this Sunday when they wrap Big 5 play with a 4 p.m. matchup versus La Salle at Hagan Arena. The game, which will be televised on CBS Sports Network, will be free to all fans.
