NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second year in a row, Saint Joseph's junior defender David Grana has been voted onto the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, in voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.
The honor comes just one week after being voted onto the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team for the second year in a row.
Grana is one of 12 selections across the league to earn All-Academic honors as a "starter or key contributor with a GPA of 3.0 or higher." The junior started all 18 matches as a right back on SJU's defensive line and took two shots on the season, hitting the back of the net on both. Grana amassed 1,489 minutes to rank fourth on the team in minutes played for an average of 82.7 minutes per match and was also one of four Hawks - and the only defender - to start every match.
The biology major with plans to become an anesthesiologist is SJU's 17th A-10 All-Academic Team honoree in program history, joining Ed DeLisle (1991), Pete Walsh (1992), Roy Dumaran (1993), Andy Wallace (1993, 1994, 1995), Mike Blue (1994, 1995), Joe Deily (1994), Dougherty (2001), Matt James (2002, 2003), Tim Brennan (2011, 2012), and past backline-mate Ben Zambetti (2017).
