PHILADELPHIA – After pouring in a combined 26 points in SJU's 1-1 Hawk Classic weekend, Saint Joseph's sophomore guard Katie Jekot has been selected the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, organization officials announced on Monday afternoon. The honor marks the first Big 5 weekly honor of her career.
Jekot scored a game-high 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with four three-pointers in SJU's 72-51 win over American on Saturday; she added three assists, three rebounds, and a steal. The sophomore standout went on to drop 10 points in SJU's 62-52 loss to Drexel on Sunday.
The sophomore leads the Hawks in scoring (10.7 ppg), minutes (32.6 per game), and three-pointers (10), ties for the team lead in steals (6), and is shooting 90 percent (18-of-20) from the free throw line.
Jekot and the Hawks (3-4) will host Sacred Heart (3-4) this Wednesday, December 4. Opening tip is set for 7:00 p.m. at Hagan Arena.
