Women's Basketball's Win Streak Snapped By Duquesne

Box Score

The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped by Duquesne on Wednesday as the Dukes topped the Hawks, 67-56, at Hagan Arena.

The Hawks (10-16, 6-7 Atlantic 10) entered the night looking for their first five-game winning streak since the start of the 2017-18 season. However, the Dukes (14-12, 8-5 A-10) took control from the tip as they ran out to a 7-2 edge.

Ahead 16-11, Duquesne scored 20 of the next 27 points as it entered halftime up 36-18.

Saint Joseph's battled back to within seven, 45-38, on a pair of free throws by senior Kristalyn Baisden to close out the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Hawks would get as Duquesne kept them at a distance over the final 10 minutes.

For the game, Saint Joseph's shot 34.5 percent from the field (19-55), 29.2 percent from three-point range (7-24) and 61.1 percent from the foul line (11-18).

Individually, Baisden finished with a team-best 20 points for her third 20-point game of the season. Sophomore Mary Sheehan added 13 points and four rebounds in a reserve role, while redshirt freshman Katie Jekot scored nine points and had four rebounds.

At the other end, Julijana Vojinovic led three Dukes in double figures with 20 points as the visitors finished the night shooting 36.4 percent from the floor (24-66), 21.7 percent from behind the arc (5-23) and 87.5 percent from the foul line (14-16).

Saint Joseph's returns to action Sunday at Rhode Island with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
