SJU Cheerleading Captures National Title

The Saint Joseph's University cheerleaders captured a national title at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Collegiate Cheerleading Championship held over the weekend of April 6-7, in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Hawks won the Division I All-Girl Intermediate Division, which marks the first-ever national title for Saint Joseph's cheerleaders.

Led by seniors Tori Alpha, Nikki Kennedy, Kate O'Neil and Rose Walton, the Hawks earned a 94.8333 in the preliminary competition. They followed that with a zero-deduction routine on the floor during the finals to earn a 96.7333 and the title.

"Before every performance this season I would say to the team 'I believe in you, believe in yourself.' So it was an amazing experience for me as a coach to watch them believing in themselves on a national stage. When they finished the routine for the last time we knew that we had done everything we worked so hard for all season," said head coach Lauren Hanos. "This group of student-athletes is amazing and I'm so happy that all of their dedication to this team was rewarded."
