Saint Joseph's Jack Darling and Jansen Kachel have been selected to the 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer Men's Rowing Academic All-Area Team.

A graduate with a degree in finance, Darling served as team commodore this past season and helped the Varsity 8 place fourth at the Dad Vail Regatta and take third at the Kerr Cup. A two-time IRA All-Academic Team selection (2017, 2018), he was previously named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team in 2018.

Rowing for the Second Varsity 8, Kachel earned a silver medal at the 2019 Dad Vail Regatta and was a member of the boat that took third at the Kerr Cup. A member of the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll, the accounting major rowed for the Third Varsity 8 as a sophomore, helping the team to a bronze-medal finish at the 2018 Dad Vail Regatta.

The Academic All-Area team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
