Daly Scores 20 In Return, But Patriots Hold Off Hawks' Late Rally, 62-55

FAIRFAX, Va. - Saint Joseph's Ryan Daly scored 20 points in his return to the lineup, but George Mason held off a late rally by the Hawks for a 62-55 win on Saturday afternoon at EagleBank Arena.

How It Happened
• Connecting on 4-of-6 from three-point range to open the game, the Hawks took a 12-4 lead on a triple by Toliver Freeman at 16:56.
• A three-pointer by Dennis Ashley pushed Saint Joseph's advantage to 20-12, but the Patriots responded with a 17-4 run to end the half and take a 29-24 edge into the second half.
• Falling behind by eight early in the second period, the Hawks rallied to make it a two-point game, 42-40, on a layup by Freeman at 10:55.
• George Mason responded with a 9-2 run to open a 51-42 lead on a layup by AJ Wilson with just over six minutes to play.
• Battling back, Saint Joseph's got to within three, 58-55, on a three-point play by Freeman with :48.1 remaining.
• Despite strong defense by the Hawks, the Patriots' Jamal Hartwell II knocked down a fade-away jumper with :22 to go to seal the victory for George Mason.

• Daly, who missed the previous two games with a lower body injury, finished with a team-high 20 points, four assists and three steals, and added five rebounds.
• Freeman finished in double figures for the second consecutive game as he added 10 points.
• The Hawks shot 33.9 percent from the floor (19-of-56), 26.7 percent from three-point range (8-of-30) and 81.8 percent from the foul line (9-of-11).
• Lorenzo Edwards' jumper in the paint at the 18:05 mark of the second half was SJU's first two-point basket of the game as the Hawks went 0-of-9 from inside the arc to start the game.
• Saint Joseph's connected on 7-of-16 from distance in the opening half, but hit just 1-of-14 in the final period.
• Javon Greene led four Patriots in double figures with 20 points.
• George Mason finished the game shooting 44.2 percent from the floor (23-of-52), 46.7 percent from three-point range (7-of-15) and knocked down 9-of-10 free throws.
