Men's Tennis Sweeps UConn, 4-0

Francesco Mowrey earned two wins on Friday night
MEDIA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team took control early and never let go en route to victory as the Hawks topped UConn, 4-0, at Springton Tennis Club on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (3-1) took the early lead with wins in the first and third doubles flights.  After the visitors won the second flight, Alex MacNeil and Francesco Mowrey pulled level with a win in the third flight before Eshan Kanetkar and Nathan Perrone clinched the doubles point with a win in a tiebreaker in the first.

• The Hawks rolled through UConn (1-11) in singles play, winning all three completed matches in straight sets and leading in two others when play was halted.

• Luis Janko was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in the sixth flight to put the Hawks on top, 2-0, before Kanetkar won by the same score in the third to push the Huskies to the brink.

• Mowrey sealed the deal in the third flight, claiming a 6-3, 6-0 win to lock up the match.  At the time, NIckolas Frisk and Johnnie Massart were leading in the second and fifth flights, respectively.

HAWK TALK
"It was a great performance overall by the Hawks," assistant coach Marc Pibernat said.  It was huge for us to win the doubles point.  We still need to get better at things we can control ourselves, like the intensity we put in when we go out there and play.  Overall, the intensity was very good, especially in singles.  I keep telling the players that we are a strong team if everyone is on and in the the right mindset to play tennis with energy and intensity at every position, and that's what needs to be our main focus for the season.  We need to capitalize on that because that is when good things can start happening for us.

"A special mention goes to Francesco Mowrey and Eshan Kanetkar, who gave the team two wins both in singles and doubles."

UP NEXT
The Hawks won't have much time to enjoy the win; they are back in action at Springton on Saturday night, when both the men's and women's squads will host Lafayette at 6:00 p.m.
