RALEIGH, N.C. - The Saint Joseph's softball team opened Saturday with a 6-2 victory over Bucknell before falling to host NC State, 7-0, on the second day of the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational.
How It HappenedÂ
Game 1
• Bucknell jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with runs in both the second and third innings.
• A four-run fifth saw the Hawks take the lead, and never give it back.
•
Carly Rybinski and
Sarah Ostaszewski each collected RBI singles to tie the game at 2-2.
• Saint Joseph's took the lead on a throwing error by the Bucknell third baseman on a stolen base attempt by Ostaszewski. Both Ostaszewski and Rybinski scored on the error to make it 4-2.

Amanda Herr connected on her first home run of the year as the solo shot made it 5-2 in the sixth.
•
Jordan Hinkle would add an insurance run later in the sixth as she scored from third on a successful double steal with Rybinski.

Saige Stutz picked up the victory to move to 2-0 on the season as she allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings, while striking out three.
•
Ashley Stokes earned her first save of the year as she tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
Game 2
• The Wolfpack opened a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a RBI single by Randi Farricker and a solo home run by Brigette Nordberg.
• NC State added to its advantage with a run in the third, and followed with four more runs in the fourth, anchored by Nordberg's second home run of the game.
• Saint Joseph's offense was held in check on the evening as the Hawks collected five hits.

Chelsea Evans moved to 0-2 on the season as she was charged with the loss after six earned runs on seven hits in three innings.
• Stutz allowed one run over the final three innings for SJU.
