Women's Basketball Drops Regular-Season Finale at Fordham, 67-45

BRONX, N.Y. – The Rams pulled away in the second quarter by outshooting the Hawks, 15-4, as the Saint Joseph's women's basketball squad ultimately fell to Fordham, 67-45, in the regular-season finale at Rose Hill Gym on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks close the regular season at 9-19 (3-13 A-10) while the Rams stand at 19-10 (11-5 A-10)

Junior point guard Lula Roig led the Hawks in scoring with 10 points on five-of-six shooting from the field. Freshman guard Kaliah Henderson pulled down a team-high six rebounds and recorded a team-high two steals. Fordham's Bre Cavanaugh's 30 points led the Rams, who finished the day shooting 50.0 percent from the field as a team.

How It Happened
Q1 – Cavanaugh scored the Rams' first 12 points of the game to put Fordham up, 12-6, at the 6:00 mark, but Saint Joseph's junior guard Mary Sheehan (5:41) and sophomore guard Katie Jekot (5:08) hit three-pointers to knot the score, 12-12. Fordham went back up by five, 22-17, with 26 seconds remaining in the first, but graduate student guard Rachel Gartner hit a deep three as time expired to bring the Hawks to within two, 22-20, after the opening quarter.

Q2 – Plagued by 22.2 percent shooting from the field (2-of-9) and seven turnovers, SJU succumbed to a 15-4 Fordham run in the second quarter to fall behind by 13 points, 37-24, at the halftime break.

Q3 and Q4 – A 19-14 third quarter that favored the Rams saw Fordham extend its lead by 18 points, 56-38, entering the fourth, and another 22.2 percent shooting quarter from the Hawks in the fourth led to the 22-point difference as time expired.
