Women's Lacrosse Falls at #19 Georgetown in Season Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team opened its 2020 season on Saturday afternoon, falling at 19th-ranked Georgetown, 19-5, at Cooper Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hoyas tallied the game's first three goals, but Sam McGee got the Hawks on the board with her first goal of the season with 26:33 to play in the first half.

• The hosts then answered with five in a row before Bridget Cerciello opened her account at about the midway point of the period.  Georgetown (1-0) would then grab hold of the game with a 7-0 run to close out the first half.

• Early in the second half, Cerciello tallied her second of the day with the Hawks a player up due to a yellow card.  Stephanie Kelly would then add her first of the season before McGee doubled her tally to close out the scoring in the final minute.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• McGee tallied a pair of goals in her return to the field after an injury cost her all but six games a season ago.  She tallied two goals in last season's opening game, also against Georgetown.

• Mikala Davis got the start in the cage for the Hawks in her Saint Joseph's debut.  Amber Weedon also saw time in goal for SJU.

UP NEXT
The Hawks return to Philadelphia for a pair of home games.  SJU hosts #15 Navy on Wednesday, February 12, before Towson visits on Saturday, February 15.
