PHOENIX, Ariz. -
Molly Kapala drove in two runs and
Amanda Herr tossed her first complete game of the season as the Saint Joseph's softball team topped Montana, 4-2, in the final game of the Lopes Up Classic on Sunday.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as
Jordan Hinkle singled home
Caela Abadie.
• Herr kept the Grizzlies off the board until the sixth as Montana tied it at 1-1 on an error by the Hawks.
• Saint Joseph's answered back in the top of the seventh as the Hawks scored three times to open a 4-1 advantage.
• A two-out double by Kapala scored
Carly Rybinski and
Kirstin Cox, while Abadie followed with a single up the middle to score Kapala.
• Montana cut the Hawks' lead to 4-2 with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but Herr got the Grizzlies' Maygen McGrath to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.
• Herr improved to 1-3 on the year as she allowed one earned run on five hits, while striking out five.
• Abadie was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI, while Kapala finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
