Senior Spotlight: Caroline Seelig, Men's Rowing

Due to the cancellation of the spring sports season, members of the Class of 2020 missed out on their own special Senior Day experience.  In light of that, are spotlighting them here on SJUHawks.com.

Senior Spotlight: Caroline Seelig, Men's Rowing

What is your favorite Saint Joseph's rowing memory?
It's hard to choose one favorite memory, but I think I would choose our winter training trip in Miami my senior year. It was a great experience to spend so much time with my teammates outside of our normal routine. We got to row in the most beautiful area and got some great work in, but I was also able to form deeper relationships with guys whom I might not have been as close with prior.

How would you like to be remembered as a member of the Saint Joseph's rowing team?
I'd hope to be remembered as a fun and committed member of the team. I care so much about our team as whole, as well as each individual member of it. It has been my greatest joy over the past four years. I hope my teammates remember me positively.

What has being a member of the Saint Joseph's rowing program taught you?
Our program has taught me many valuable lessons, but there are two that are my favorite, involving willpower and community.  I first joined St. Joe's rowing not knowing a thing about crew or coxswains. Coming in, I naturally lacked many of the skills that make up a good coxswain (organization, communication, leadership, etc). The program taught me how to apply myself and improve in ways that were not easy or natural to me. With effort, time and drive, I have been able to progress in many of these areas over my four years.  I feel proud to have accomplished what I have, however, I would not have been able to do any of that without the supportive and determined community that makes up St. Joe's men's rowing. We are a team that works hard, and when we do, we go together (literally). When I or other classmates have struggled, especially as underclassmen, our teammates were enthusiastically there to help and guide us. I hope and feel that my classmates and I have been able to have a similar impact on the team as we have gotten older.  We challenge each other and we care about each other. Together, we work towards the same goal, and I've learned that committed groups like this one create an energy that is unstoppable. I hope to become a part of similar communities in the future.

What will you take out of your involvement with the Saint Joseph's rowing program moving forward?
I hope to maintain relationships with many of my teammates for life. I will certainly continue to have a love for rowing and athletics in general. I hope to take the skills that I have learned as a coxswain into my workplace and life.
